Jeniffer
My business partner, Jeniffer (in pink monkey shirt behind me), and I became great friends while in school to obtain our esthetics license. Even though we were related by marriage (she was my husband’s cousin), we did not interact much at extended family gatherings. I used to jokingly say that I never got the warm fuzzies from her and she used to say that I never stayed in a room long enough for her to talk to me. With all that, we shared a love of waxing that we knew could grow into a successful business. We decided early on that we would be business partners first, friends second and family third. As polar opposite Virgos, our relationship was tested many times through the five years we had the business together. We had grown the business from one location to two, but we had grown even more as people. Although I had other people that I called my best friends, the truth is Jen was one of my best friends. We were personally and professionally in a great place. We had shared goals and visions for the company. Then on Thursday, June 9, 2011, I received a call that Jen had unexpectedly passed away. The cause of her death was a myocardial infarction (heart attack). I struggled to find my new normal and to make sense of why a 44-year-old woman (she would hate that I put her age in this) just didn’t wake up one morning. I miss her laugh and sarcastic sense of humor but most of all I miss my friend.
The Monkey, however, went on. We grew with even more locations. Thankfully, we had more successes, than failures. Onward and upward is what Jen always said. We were never very good at looking back. So, if you are reading this, please pay homage to Jen and like us on Facebook and Instagram. She was a huge social media fan, and she would have loved to see our numbers grow.
Thank you for all of your love and support ~ Brenda
